Gusev is able to shine in all the classics or nearly so.
We saw him excel in the difficult Championship of Zurich in 2006, he won mountain a stage this year in the Tour of Switzerland and he gleaned 4th place last year in the final classification ranking of the Tour of Germany. He has distinguished himself in classics for sprinters like Hamburg and Paris-Tours. Moreover, he is one of the best hopes in the races with pavers
This is a very good cyclist. Last year, he won the prologue of the Tour of Germany and finished 10th world championship of contre-la-montre. This season Gusev finished 10 of the 12 ProTour classics, which places him at the head of list in this particular classification.

Vladimir took a beautiful 5th place yesterday

Vladimir Gusev (Discovery Channel) was probably the most frustrated rider of the weekend. Not only were the Russian's ambitions for the Giro di Lombardia ruined when Fränk Schleck (Team CSC) touched his wheel and crashed, the next day in Les Herbiers he went full gas but his derailleur got blocked on the 17-tooth sprocket and he couldn't use all of his power. "It's a pity what happened to me two days in a row because I was in the best form of my life, I'm even thinner now than in July for the Tour de France," noted the Russian TT champion, who finished fifth.
